Hayley’s* safety plan

Hayley was in an abusive relationship for a number of years and had recently separated from her partner. In doing so, her ex-partner began stalking and harassing her, as well as making threats to harm her and her family.

Hayley received support from Ruby, and we completed a DASH risk assessment with her which resulted in a MARAC referral as she was assessed as high risk.  MARAC means Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference and is a meeting that is held to talk about the most high risk cases of domestic abuse and sexual violence, to share information and to safety plan for a victim.

We gave Hayley advice on obtaining civil orders and with the support from Ruby, she completed an application for a non-molestation order which was put in place on emergency basis. A non-molestation order is usually issued to stop an abuser from threatening you, being violent, intimidating, harassing or communicating with you. An order could prevent the abuser coming within a certain distance of you, your home address or even attending your place of work. It could also include your children in certain circumstances. An order will also prevent an abuser from instructing or encouraging others to do any of those actions.

We supported Hayley to engage with social workers to ensure her children’s safety. We also gave Hayley advice and support around safety planning and applied for a TAU marker on her address to ensure hers and her children’s safety.

With the support of MARAC and all other agencies involved an action plan was created to safeguard and protect Hayley. This included the TAU maker on her property and a non-molestation order from court. Hayley has given statements to the police about incidents with her ex-partner and these are now being investigated, this is something Hayley would never have done without the support from Ruby.

How we supported Hayley

Supporting Hayley with disclosing the domestic violence and reporting it to the police made sure that she felt heard, believed and increased her awareness around domestic violence. Hayley had never spoken to anyone about her relationship before but now feels she’s able to protect herself and the children. She now feels positive about her and the children’s future which she never imagined she would.

The support provided for getting the civil orders was particularly beneficial to Hayley as this ensured that her and her children’s safety was prioritised, and that she had protection if he were to continue to abuse/harass her.

Hayley was so grateful for our support and said, ‘Thank you so much for all of your help I really appreciate it and wouldn’t have been able to get through this without your support’.
