Day 2 of 16 days of activism

Our specialist practitioners who work in our Ruby @ Women’s Turnaround service, are some of the most caring, determined and genuine people in PSS.

We’re lucky to have such skilled, hardworking and resilient people supporting the women who use our services.

Kate’s also our domestic abuse workplace champion, which means she can offer free, confidential support to our staff who might want support or advice for a situation they’re in or someone they know is experiencing abuse.

Here’s what Kate has to say:

‘Before working for the Ruby project, I worked in the Women’s Turnaround team for four and a half years supporting women on probation. I left to be a social worker for a brief period but then returned to PSS when I saw a vacancy in the Ruby project.

Ruby has always felt very close to my heart due to my passion for domestic abuse, it’s also the area I felt most knowledgeable in. I had no reservations about returning to PSS as I was so happy during my time with them, and it genuinely does feel like a family. It’s a lovely environment to work in.

I’m passionate about working with women, keeping them safe and sharing knowledge about domestic abuse and exposing the behaviours of perpetrators in order to empower women. This is my favourite part of the job, when women have the realisation of what has been happening in their relationship and they feel that they’re able to recognise, name and identify what they have been through. This can be really therapeutic for them, as well as really confusing and distressing. We support women through their emotions in the form of counselling and 1:1 emotional support to help them through this process.’
