At PSS we’ve been disgusted and outraged to watch the horrific, shameful acts of racism, Islamophobia and xenophobia that have happened around the UK over the past few weeks.  

Nobody should ever feel worried about being harmed or treated differently because of the colour of their skin, their religion, where they’re from or any other part of who they are – but this is the upsetting reality for lots of people in our country, now and for too long as a result of the systemic racism that’s sadly still all around us. 

The mindless violence happening on our doorsteps has made PSS teammates from global majority communities feel unwelcome and unsafe in their own country, afraid to be out on their own, to travel to work on public transport, and to live their lives freely. This is deeply upsetting for all of us, but especially those affected, and it’s completely unacceptable. We’re supporting our teammates, volunteers, Shared Lives carers and people we support in every way we can to keep them safe and take care of their wellbeing during this worrying and stressful time. But we know this support is only going to go a very small way to help with what is a huge problem in our society, where widespread change needs to happen to stamp out racism of all kinds for good, and bring equity, inclusion and belonging for all people. 

We stand in solidarity and support with all global majority communities feeling the impact of these awful acts of hate, and with all those who have stood up together against them to protect our communities. We’re with you.
