PSS in a nutshell

At PSS, we’ve got an important job to do; and that’s to help people make the most of their lives, no matter what life throws at them. Whether you’re working directly with the people who use our services, or behind the scenes in one of our offices, every day you’ll be helping to make other people feel happier, healthier and more supported.

We’re a social enterprise or, as we like to call it – a ‘business with a heart’. This means that all the money we make goes back into finding new ways to help people. Our aim is simple; we want to help people change their lives for the better – no matter what life throws at them. We’ve got offices across Merseyside, Wales, Manchester, the Midlands, Norfolk and Suffolk, where we’re making our stamp. The Growing Together and Parent-Baby Relationships services are both based in Liverpool.

What our Growing Together and Parent-Baby Relationships services are all about:

PSS Growing Together is a new therapeutic service focused on helping parents and carers develop strong and healthy relationships with their babies; keeping them safe, helping them enjoy life together and forming strong and positive bonds. The service is one of three that PSS offers to support parents and babies with a range of different needs, alongside Parent-Baby Relationships and Parent and Baby Wellness.

Our Parent-Baby Relationships service focusses on keeping babies safe and helping parents, carers and babies enjoy each other’s company and form good relationships, so that babies develop to their full potential. The specialist team work with people who are experiencing difficulties, like finding it difficult to bond with their baby, supporting their baby to develop, or feeling that there is too much pressure on them and that they need some support with their mental health and wellbeing.

What we need from our new therapist

We’re looking for someone with a degree in a therapeutic qualification (or comparable) that includes the assessment of adults. You’ll need to be registered with a relevant professional body like HCPC, BACP or UKCP and specialist training/ experience of parent-infant mental health will support you in this role.

What you’ll do therapist

You’ll work with parents and other primary carers who for whatever reason are finding it difficult to bond with their baby, understand their baby’s needs and finding the early stages of parenting a challenge. You’ll form positive working relationships with families and other professionals.

This post involves assessing parent-infant relationships and deciding if therapy and what type of therapy will be most effective. This will involve talking with the parent, observing the parent with the infant, asking the parent to complete appropriate questionnaires and measures and gathering information from professionals who know the family. This will allow you to then then offer a therapeutic intervention based on the assessment, best evidence-based practice and the wishes and needs of the family.

Closing date for applications:   3rd August 2021
