What’s our Newby House service all about?

Newby House is part of our Supported Living service in Liverpool; it’s a mental health reablement service based in Halewood. The service supports people to manage their mental health diagnosis and live happy, healthy lives. Newby offers a safe and supportive space for our tenants to live until they feel ready and able to live independently. Our awesome team support people to grow in confidence and manage their mental health challenges in daily life, to access their local community, to achieve their goals and to live life however they choose to.

The service also supports people living in their own homes within the Knowsley borough. Our big-hearted and determined support workers offer one-to-one support to people in their home or out and about in the local community. The service is designed to support the needs of the individual with person-centred and empowering support being at the heart of everything we do.

The people we support shape what their service looks like and how they spend their days; learning, growing and thriving in their local communities. The people who use our services want to make a big contribution to the world we live in. They want to take on roles in the wider community, lead change and influence, and our wonderful teams support them to do just that.

What you’ll do

As a team leader for our Newby House service, it’ll be your job to ensure that the people we support get the most out of life. You’ll lead your team to ensure that the service is built around the needs, hopes and dreams of the people who matter most – those we support.  You’ll also make sure that support outcomes are monitored and evidenced to celebrate our achievements and to support us to grow and develop in the future.

A big part of your role will come in looking at the big picture stuff and the future of our service. You’ll support with creating and implementing a service development plan, that responds to the needs of people we support and the aims of the service. You’ll lead your team to meet their agreed objectives in line with this team plan to ensure that everyone plays their part in our development.

The people we support always drive what we do, meaning our support workers need to be motivated by making a difference and be the right people for the role. As a team leader you’ll drive a positive and productive team ethos and ensure that our service goes from strength to strength for the people who use it.

What do I need to be great at?

There are a few skills that will really help you to shine bright in this role:

Leading authentically

You’ll need to be an authentic leader who truly believes that their first role is to serve others. You will be absolutely committed to delivering results, and always the right results delivered in the right way. You will care about people, and your decision-making will be strongly rooted in your own values and beliefs. Your values will need to align with the PSS values, our bread and butter around here.

Being a real people person

It goes without saying that you’ll put people at the heart of what you do. You’ll be focused on ensuring that the people we support decide how they’re supported at every step of the way. You’ll lead our teams to build support plans with and not for people and to develop these plans alongside their changing needs.

You’ll also build strong relationships with your team; support your team to understand important policies and procedures in a way that works for them; and follow PSS leadership learning tools and courses to build a stronger, more resilient workforce for the people we support.

Understanding the nitty-gritty

You’ll need to keep a weather eye on crucial stuff like health and safety; keeping people’s personal details up-to-date via our client management system, understanding our policies and procedures inside-out and responding to any performance-related issues rapidly. We need to make sure the people we support feel and are super safe and secure.

Who are we looking for?

We need someone who’s up for all the challenges this role may bring, is big on professional development and who’s hungry to innovate and drive change. Above all we need someone who is motivated by supporting people to live their best life possible. A knowledge of the Knowsley borough could support you in this role but isn’t essential.

Experience is desired but we do offer an extensive training programme and many opportunities to gain relevant skills and knowledge.
