What’s Shared Lives all about?

Shared Lives is a little bit like fostering, but with the big difference that it’s for adults who want to live as independently as possible. The people we support move in with our carers and their families, becoming part of normal family life.

Our Shared Lives carers support people who need extra help with daily things like cooking, cleaning, ironing and getting out and about to the shops, and they support people who might need a bit more complex support, like personal care or support with getting around. There are lots of different types of people using Shared Lives. It could be someone with a learning disability, mental health needs or people moving on from a different type of care. Our big-hearted Shared Lives team work very hard to make sure people are well matched, that both Shared Lives carers and supported people feel supported and – most of all – that everyone is happy.

What you’ll do

As registered manager for our East Midlands service you’ll have an important job to do – to develop the Shared Lives service in the region and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Your main job will be keeping all the plates spinning, looking after all the important operational stuff that goes into managing the scheme. You’ll be responsible for running the service in line with the requirements set out by CQC Registration and Inspection. As well as making sure that we support people to achieve excellent outcomes, you’ll have the key role in ensuring that the financial management is strong so that all our budget targets are met. You’ll also produce reports and newsletters of the highest standard.

To do this job well, you’ll need:

A big picture view

You’ll keep a beady eye on our overall strategic plan or as we call it, The Big Plan’. You’ll lead on the development of the service plan and help us get stuff done. You’ll put effective systems in place, monitor these, work with the people we support and our UK teams and identify ways that we can get even better at what we do.

A people person approach

You’ll rally the troops, instil a positive and productive attitude across our teams and support everyone to be the best version of themselves for the benefit of the people we support.

A strong business balance

As well as making sure people are happy and well supported, we also need to make sure our services are sustainable and can stick around for the long haul. You’ll work hard on counting the pennies, maximising our resources and promoting our service far and wide so that it can grow.

A driving license and use of a car

As Shared Lives arrangements require regular visits, some of which are in rural areas with no access to public transport routes

Candidates who consider themselves to be disabled will also be given the opportunity to attend an interview if they meet the essential criteria for the role
