Peter Kinsella, trustee

Peter joined PSS in 2021. He started working in social care in the 1980s when he started working for Mencap. In this role he developed the very first community care services in the UK.  After some time spent in the USA learning from the very best community services at the time, he returned to the UK with tons of ideas about how to improve our system and established the UK’s very first Supported Living services.  Peter was credited with defining Supported Living in the UK, with a number of publications including Supported Living – the New Paradigm and REACH – Standards in Supported Living. Peter was a regular speaker at many international conferences and played a big part in the development of person-centred approaches across much of the globe.

In 2009, Peter gave into his yearning to make a career out of his first love in life – food! He gave up his old life as a management consultant and with his wife, Elaine opened a Catalonian restaurant, deli and bar in Liverpool. Away from work, Peter has three children and a cockapoo called Churros, and loves cycling, travelling and Liverpool Football Club.
