PSS in a nutshell

At PSS, we’ve got an important job to do; and that’s to help people make the most of their lives. Whether you’re working directly with the people who use our services, or behind the scenes in one of our offices, every day you’ll be helping to make other people feel happier, healthier and more supported.
We’re a social enterprise or, as we like to call it – a ‘business with a heart’. This means that all the money we make goes back into finding new ways to help people. Our aim is simple; we want to help people change their lives for the better – no matter what life throws at them. We’ve got offices across Merseyside, Wales, Manchester, Norfolk and Suffolk and the Midlands, where we’re making our stamp.

What’s our Supported Living service all about?

We have lots of different Supported Living arrangements around Liverpool where people can live in their own home or share a residence with others – depending on their individual preferences and needs. People living in one of our Supported Living arrangements can live as independently as they want to. Our wonderful support workers empower them to be exactly who they want to be and to do exactly what they want to do safely and inclusively. This could be adults with a learning disability, complex needs, an older person who may need some support around the home, someone experiencing mental health challenges, somebody recovering from substance misuse or a young adult who needs support.

The support offered is completely person-centred and built around the individual person, their needs and goals for the future. Support workers can work with that person to help them develop new skills and become independent, to manage their money and apply for benefits, to access health and social care services, to gain employment if they want to, to get involved in the community, to manage their emotions, to take their medications, to look after their personal care and to stay in touch with their friends and family. It’s all about helping people feel safe, happy and well.

Who are we looking for?

We’re on the hunt for someone who has a big heart, is open-minded, genuine, determined and professional. The perfect candidate will be positive with a can-do approach and will be committed to providing excellent support.

Meet Bobby*.  We’re looking for support workers to support Bobby* who has an acquired brain injury and complex needs. Bobby lives within his family home and requires full support with daily living tasks, personal care and to access the activities he enjoys in life. He’s supported with a 2-1 staff ratio over a 24-hour period, seven days per week, 365 days per year, including evenings, weekends, waking nights and bank holidays.

Supporting Bobby* is a great opportunity to make a real difference to somebody’s life and gain experience working within the social care industry. Experience of working with vulnerable adults in an outcome focused environment is desirable. But what is more important is a ‘can do’ attitude, a solid values base and the ability to work as part of a team.

What Bobby* needs:

Supporting Bobby* you’ll need to be a very special person, somebody who can give the utmost compassion and who really strives to make a difference to someone’s life.
You’ll need to:

• Get to know Bobby*, understanding him inside out and delivering care that fits around him, his abilities and his hopes and dreams.
• Be super professional, doing the right thing by Bobby and working effectively with the team that supports him to give him the best quality of life.
• Empower Bobby* to be as independent as he wants to be and to do all the things he wants to do in life.
• Keep Bobby* safe and ensure that his health and wellbeing is your core focus.

Please note a full UK driving licence is a desirable requirement for this role.
