As well as a load of brilliant learning and development opportunities, we’ve got a whole host of staff perks to offer you when you come and join us. They’re designed to give you that little bit of an extra pep in your step, and help you look after you, your family and your finances while you’re working with us. We’re always on the hunt for new ways we can look after you, so this list grows on the regular.
Looking after your physical and mental wellbeing
We’re a caring, giving bunch and our roles are all about supporting other people in the best we can, so our jobs can sometimes be quite demanding of us. That all means that, more than ever, we must make sure we’re taking good care of ourselves, too – whether it’s your physical health or your mental health (they’re both as important as each other).
Here at PSS we encourage everyone to make sure they’re taking care of their whole selves, and we’ve got some lovely initiatives to help you do that.
Although taking care of your wellbeing is an everyday thing, each Wednesday at Eleanor Rathbone House we have what we like to call ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’. In the morning, we take part in half an hour of meditation and mindfulness. In the afternoon, we have an hour’s yoga session with our yoga instructor, Cath. All this is free to anyone who works for PSS.
Discounted gym memberships
You can get your mitts on various discounts and offers for selected gyms, including large private chains, local authority leisure centres and small private gyms.
We provide enhanced payment entitlements for sickness, maternity, paternity and adoption (believe it or not, not all employers do!).
PSS Pension Scheme
On 1st April 2019, the government increased the minimum auto-enrolment contribution to 8%, meaning that employers were expected to pay 3% and employees 5%. However, we decided to increase our contribution to 4% so that our employees paid 4%, meaning less impact on our staff pockets.
All new employees are automatically enrolled into this scheme unless you decide to opt-out. You can also join our more generous contributory PSS Pension Scheme, where you can make higher contributions of 7% or 8%, with us matching this, plus an additional 1% (meaning that PSS can be making up to a 9% contribution to your pension pot). This scheme is provided by The People’s Pension and is dependent upon your level of earning. Contributions can be made as part of a salary exchange arrangement which reduces the national insurance that you and PSS pay.
Whether or not you decide to join our pension scheme, we provide free life cover protection of 1x basic annual salary, to all our employees who are on contracted hours which can offer a bit of peace of mind knowing your nearest and dearest are taken care of when it matters most.
PSS Annual Season Ticket Loan
This is a really handy one for those who travel to work by public transport. We can loan you the cost of an annual season ticket for most forms of public transport. This can save you hundreds of pounds a year and means you can pay the cost back through your salary, in regular monthly instalments. You can take advantage of this once you have completed your probation period.
Medicash Health Plan
Everyday healthcare costs can mount up pretty quickly. Medicash has various packages and payment options available for everyday health care costs, such as dental and optical care, assessment and treatment such as physiotherapy and chiropody, as well as plans for alternative treatment such as Indian head message and Reiki.
Thanks to our contract with O2, they can offer you some great savings on your personal calls, texts and data. The perks don’t end there either. You get access to advance tickets for all O2 music venues, such as the O2 Academy Venues. Plus 20% off accessories like fitness trackers, smart watches and headphones. On top of that, you can get free tech advice from O2 Gurus and access to 15,000 O2 Wifi hotspots.
